International Day for Disabled Persons 3rd December
In 1992, the United Nations proclaimed, 3rd December as the International Day of Disabled Persons (IDDP) at the conclusion of the United Nations Decade of Disabled Persons (1983 – 1992) resolution 47/3). Subsequent to this declaration, the General Assembly appealed to states to institute programmes and measures that reflect the lives of persons with disabilities. World Aids Day 1st December According to UNAIDS 2.3 million children. During 2006 some 4.3 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35. 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children is a United Nations campaign. It takes place annually from the 25th November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to the 10th December (International Human Rights Day). Since 1999 the South African Government has run a parallel campaign that includes issues relating to violence against children. This campaign focuses primarily on generating an increased awareness of the negative impact of violence on women and children as well as society as a whole. |
